Why did Mary remember these and the other things in Luke’s first chapters? Why did she treasure them up in her heart? For the same reasons that you should treasure them in your heart. Children are born all the time, but this baby came for you. This temple was his own temple, a house of worship for the living God. There he was praised and his salvation was proclaimed. Still Jesus is praised in his temple. Not the temple in Jerusalem which no longer stands, but in his churches wherever two or three gather in his name. And in your heart, which he has cleansed from sin and all unrighteousness, which he has set apart, a holy temple for himself.
