What Kind of Person Is Blessed?

We find the surety of this, that we are blessed by God, not in the earthly blessings of wealth and self-sufficiency and success, but in God’s promise. We find it in the cross. We find it in the sacraments, where water is poured on you along with God’s name, and where bread and wine are Jesus’ own body and blood for your forgiveness. Whether you are rich or poor, whether your life is filled with successes or failures, you are the kind of person who is blessed by God, because God’s undeserved love is for you, because Jesus died for you, and because God never breaks his promises.
