If we truly believe that God knows our suffering, that can only lead to two outcomes. Either we curse God, or we repent. If we believe that God knows our suffering and won’t do anything about it, or doesn’t care, we’ll curse God, as Job’s wife suggested to him, “Curse God and die!” But then, what is the cross? Look at that cross and see the Son of God suffering and dying for you. God is not a distant God, an uncaring God, or a forgetful God. He is our God, the God of our fathers, from generation to generation. He’s our faithful God. He’s our forgiving God.
