Jesus still comes to us who gather in his name. He meets us directly in his Word and Sacrament. It’s the pastor who speaks but it’s Jesus who speaks through him. God’s ministers speak as his ambassadors. The Word they speak carries the authority of Jesus himself. The Gospel they preach delivers God’s grace. Jesus is present among us in Word and Sacrament to forgive our sins, to increase our faith, and to fill us with his peace and joy. In Jesus the year of the Lord’s favor is always now. The freedom he proclaims is ours wherever we gather in his name.
