Zechariah rejoices in God’s salvation. God has kept his word. That’s what we celebrate at Christmas. God promised to send a Savior, and he did. That hadn’t happened yet when Zechariah sang his song, but Zechariah doesn’t talk about things God might do someday. He speaks as if all these things are done. And he does that with his confidence and joy in God’s sure word. It’s just as God said. It’s the oath that God swore. When God speaks, the outcome is certain. A Savior was born for us! And our Lord Jesus will come again. The joy of Christmas continues. It’s a joy for all time. We rejoice in the salvation of our God.
