Every day of our lives on this earth we see and experience all around us the material, physical world. We know it’s real, and we know that the hardships we face in it are real as well. But Jesus teaches us to see a bigger picture. We can’t put our hope in the world. We can’t save ourselves from the attacks of the world. But we can trust in our Savior. What can the world do to Jesus, who rose from the dead and ascended into heaven? What threats can the world bring against us who belong to him? And so we pray, “Deliver us from evil.” The world and all its power is nothing compared to the mighty saving arm of our God.
